LAKE NAIVASHA COUNTRY CLUB IN KENYA

Just over an hour's drive from Nairobi in Kenya, Lake Naivasha is one of Great Rift Valley's jewels, reflecting the tranquil beauty of an African sky, and the surrounding mountains temporarily distorted as flocks of graceful flamingoes, and the pink backed pelican settle on the water. The fresh water lake, some 13 km across is a haven of bird watchers, nature lovers, artists and for those seeking peaceful scenic retreat. There are over 300 species of birds that inhabit the shores of Lake Naivasha, drawing ornithologists from all over the world.

Previously knowingly as Lake Hotel,
Lake Naivasha Country Club, sited in 55 acres of lakeside gardens, began life in 1930’s as papyrus thatched chalets. Although this current Kenya safari accommodation is a far cry from the original structure, the club has certainly not lost any of its charm. There is a choice of rooms, cottages and suites, all furnished with their own individual theme. Lunch most days is al fresco, beneath the shade of some magnificent acacia and pepper trees. Then of course, there is always the swimming pool for catching up on a tan, a novel and a few lengths in the pool. In addition, the evenings have its own charm too. After a day in the fresh air, a Naivasha cocktail sets pace for an enjoyable evening. Africa safari guests can look forward to a 'home grown' dinner prepared only from the freshest lakeside ingredients.

Naivasha has the highest concentration of Fish Eagle in the world and over 300 species of birds have been sighted on and around the lake. The guides have a wide knowledge of the birds and their habits. Boats are rented out on an exclusive basis per hour for bird watching, fishing trips and expeditions to Crescent Island. An 18-seater flat-decked cruiser sails every evening for a romantic sundowner cruise that combines a sumptuous sunset with exotic drinks. Ideal for groups and small incentive parties, a full bar can be accommodated on board and cocktails and canapés served. Crescent Island is a private game sanctuary, which is home to zebra, wildebeest, gazelle, vervet monkeys, hares, genet cats and giraffe. The island is less than a 15 minute boat ride from the hotel. There are no fences and no predators and it is one of the few places in the world where one can wander on foot amongst the animals with no predator threat.
